Experienced tutors guide the
participants through rhythm exercises and
an introduction to different drums and
their cultural background. The main part
of the workshop consists of teaching and
playing a complete piece of either
African or Brazilian music involving all
participants. This workshop is
performance oriented. All the instruments
are provided and are of the highest
standard.

A workshop designed to encourage
students to compose and improvise using
vocabulary, voice and body as well as
percussion instruments. The workshop aim
is to inspire students to express
themselves and relate to others through
music whilst working towards a final
group composition and performance.
Rhythm and String Workshops

A lively and informative programme
using fiddle and bodhran to demonstrate
and explore traditional music. The
history, making and playing of the fiddle
are explained while bodhran illustrates
the various time signatures used. Each
student will the have the opportunity to
play the bodhran providing a satisfying
and novel introduction to performing
traditional music.

An interactive workshop that involves
all aspects of photography. Students
explore the techniques involved in taking
photographs, composition and darkroom
techniques. Through the course the
participants produce a photographic
print.
Juggling and Circus Skills

Juggling and Circus skills aim to
develop concentration, eye to hand
co-ordination, dexterity and posture.
Juggling is linked to mathematical
equations and can be broken down into
steps therefore encouraging the
individual the individual to work along
the process in a fun and entertaining
way.
Introduction to Music Technology

An introduction to the various aspects and uses of technology in music. The background and history of electronic music is explored using audio, computer and instruments (Synthesizer, Sampler and Drum machines). An overview on sequencers and other music related computer software is also given. requirements: PC Computer with 17" or 19" monitor, CD Rom drive, soundcard and speakers. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes.
Music Technology Applied

A hands on experience with music technology that includes an introduction and detailed instructions on the most used applications in electronic music production. The participants work with existing resources to create a piece of music. Areas covered include:

Rhythm and Rapping

Interactive workshop incorporating
elements of rap and riddle composition,
percussion and voice. Designed to
encourage participants to work creatively
within a group setting. This workshop
culminates in the performance of an
original piece created by the group with
a musical accompaniment.

Introduction to Brass

Rap to Jungle, Disco to Techno

Professional D.J. providing records, turntables and P.A. brings students through 40 years of music, from early electronic music through disco, punk, rap, new romantic, pop, hip hop, electro, R & B, house, jungle, drum n' base, garage and techno. Requirements: Fairly soundproofed room
with small P.A. system (amplifier,
speakers and 2 CD players). If possible
participants should bring along their own
preferred style of music on vinyl.
Talking Heads - Radio Workshop

Participants learn how to produce a
radio programme through a comprehensive
training workshop. Plan a radio
programme, source the stories, learn
research skills, adapt your writing for
radio, carry out mock interviews and
learn the techniques of reporting a
story, training research, interview
technique, voice technique as well as
presentation skills.

A comprehensive exploration of musical drama in an opera chosen by your school from a selection of classics such as: Carmen and Hansel and Gretel
Through an interactive voice workshop
participants learn about central
characters, background/storyline, the
composer's inspiration, themes
explored and how a composer achieves
drama through music using thematic
relations and keys.
Take me to your Leider

A voice workshop focusing on the
relationship between words and melody,
piano and voice. Through an example of a
Leider song such as Schumann's
"Trauen Lieber und Leben",
composer skills are explored. The ability
to utilise melody to enhance the meaning
of words and the interweaving of the
voice and piano to create musical poetry
is demonstrated.
Music in Practice

Song singing using percussion
instruments as accompaniment,
interspersed with examples of popular
classical pieces. Workshop incorporates
Solfa singing and is conducted by a tutor
qualified in the Kodaly method of
teaching.
Shakespear in Transition

Hamlet, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet & The Merchent of Venice Extracts from the above performed by
professional actors for all transition
year students. This will be followed by
an interactive workshop for 20 students
and culminating with a re-adaptation of
the earlier works but this time involving
both actors and students. A final
presentation will be performed for the
original audience.
