Concert - Sunday 29th September 2002 at 8.30pm
"The Callino Quartet is now, by along shot, the most
polished young string quartet that Ireland has produced." -
The Irish Times 2001
The all-female Callino Quartet will perform in
Donamon Castle, Roscommon on Sunday 29
September at 8.30pm as part of Music Network's
Young Musicwide
performance programme. Selected last year as the first chamber group on
Young Musicwide, Music Network's development programme for selected young
professional musicians, the Quartet has since established itself as one of
Ireland's most exciting quartets. The Quartet, comprising Ioana Petcu-colan
and Sarah Sexton on violins, Samantha Hutchins on viola, and Sarah McMahon
on cello, will perform Haydn's Quartet in D, Op. 76 No. 5, Beethoven's
Quartet in F, Op. 59 No. 1 (Rasoumovsky) and Ravel's
Quartet in F.
The Callino Quartet was formed in June 1999 following a successful and
critically acclaimed performance at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival
in
Bantry. Its members are all honours graduates of
the Royal Academy of
Music in London. Since its formation the Quartet has been working towards
forging an international career and is creating much interest both in
Ireland and abroad. The Quartet has recently returned from Italy where they
received a special mention for performing a 'model of classical Haydn' in
the Final of the 6th Premio Borciani String Quartet Competition.
The Quartet has performed in masterclasses with members of such
internationally renowned ensembles as the Amadeus
Quartet, Quatuor Mosaique, the Skampa Quartet, the Vogler Quartet, the
Panocha Quartet, the Alban Berg Quartet, the RTE
Vanbrugh Quartet and Hugh Maguire, former member of the Allegri Quartet.
They have performed alongside the Vanbrugh and the Vogler Quartets, Paul
Silverthorne, Principal Viola with the London
Symphony Orchestra, violist Rivka Golani and the Paris-Bastille Wind Octet.
The Callino Quartet has become somewhat of a fixture at the West Cork
Chamber Music Festival having just attended their fourth consecutive year by
invitation.
Internationally, the Quartet toured the Netherlands
in 2000 and will be
performing a second tour in November 2002 as part of Music Network's
Musicwide International, in association with West Cork Music. They performed
in Norway at the Bergen International
Chamber Music Festival 2001 also as part of Music Network
s Musicwide International, a scheme which promotes Irish musicians abroad in
partnership with the Department of Foreign
Affairs.
Closer to home, the Quartet has been busy performing extensively around both
Ireland and the UK;
their critically acclaimed debut concert took place in the National Concert
Hall, Dublin in October
of 2001. They have performed live on both RTE television and radio.
Music Network, the national music development organization, was established
by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon in 1986 to develop classical,
traditional music and jazz throughout Ireland. The organization aims to make
live music accessible to all, regardless of
circumstance or location,
through partnerships with locally-based organizations.
Young Musicwide is funded by The Arts Council with additional support from
the British Council.

November
Concert - Sunday 24th November 2002 at 8.30pm
The Vindobona Trio
The Vindobona Trio, named after the old Roman name for
Vienna, was formed by three of Dublin¹s leading
resident musicians. They discovered they had
common ground in having spent a major part of th eir
student lives in Vienna, absorbing the great
tradition of the Viennese masters. The members of the
Trio represent the Israeli, German and Irish cultures and their
performances also reflect these very different
influences. The Vindobona Trio particularly
enjoys reintroducing exciting works which over the years have
disappeared from the standard piano trio
repertoire.
Each member of the Vindobona Trio has successful independent careers.
Pianist Réamonn Keary has recorded for RTÉ Radio and Television and performs
regularly as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. He is
Chairman of the RIAM Senior Examiners and an
appointee of the CRC of the Department of Foreign
Affairs. Violinist Eyal Kless has appeared as a soloist,
concertmaster and chamber musician in Israel, Austria, the USA,
Germany, Poland, Denmark, France and Spain. He
teaches at the prestigious Salzburg
Summer Academy and is in the process of concluding his first book Zen
and the Art of Violin Practicing. Appointed co-prinicipal
cellist of the NSOI in 1998, Eckart
Schwarz-Schultz has worked with the Radio Symphony Orchestra
in Vienna, and has also performed as a deputy cellist with the Vienna
Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony and Austrian State Opera orchestras.
All three members of Vindobona Trio have successful teaching careers. Both
Réamonn and Eyal are professors at the RIAM and Eckart has recently been
appointed to its staff.
