The Studio closes down

Carlton Cinema soon to follow

The Studio, the basic service film channel owned by NTL and Vivendi Univesal, has closed down. The channel was only available on NTL Go Digital and in the UK on NTL Home. It failed to secure the wider carrige deals - in particular, on SkyDigital, necessary to make the channel viable.

From Sunday viewers to the channel were greeted by an NTL Home notice stating that the channel had closed down and advertising the UK digital service (even in the Republic of Ireland!). From today, a blank screen is the only thing remaining of the channel.

Carlton Communications plans to close its basic film channel Carlton Cinema later this year. This will leave AOL TIme Warner's TCM as the only remaining non-premium film channel.
