Meanwhile Chorus puts up prices...NTL to follow? NTL has announced that it is to offer a digital television service by the middle of next year to its MMDS customers. This follows its failure to sell its MMDS franchises. No indication as to what channels, packages etc will be on offer have been given yet, nor has an exact launch date for the service been revealed. The ODTR welcomed the move, however it has said that if this does not materialise, it or its successor body the Commission for Communications Regulation (COMREG) will require NTL to pay a rebate to its customers as a punishment. Chorus was recently required to pay such a rebate to some customers where it had failed to meet its roleout requirements. Meanwhile Chorus has announced that it is to increase its analogue prices by up to 11%. The digital service will have its prices slightly reduced. There will now be just four price points for Chorus Intro customers accross its franchises. More channels will be offered in certain areas. The Irish Independent today speculated that NTL may also increase its prices, but this has yet to be confirmed by the company. You can discuss this story on our ICDG Cable/MMDS/Broadband Forum.
