John Keegan, Writer, Poet and Story Teller.  1816-1849

JOHN KEEGAN (1816-1849) was a leading figure in the Nation circle of writers and poets.  Contemporary with Mangan, Carleton, Banim, and Edgeworth, Keegan drew inspiration from the people and landscape of his native Co. Laois.  This web site provides information on Keegan's life and on the political and cultural background to his work.  A number of Keegan's poems and stories are included and there is information on the recent revival of interest in Keegan which has led to the setting up a school dedicated to Keegan's work and the establishment of an annual weekend of events which is named after him.
